About this deal

History has proven that CMON is onto a winning formula when it comes to the Zombicide series. What began as an ambitious project to reinvent miniatures gaming has since evolved into a hugely popular and long running series that has spawned (excuse the pun) multiple expansions and spin offs. Around this time last year, we reviewed the previous outing; Zombicide: Green Horde, awarding it a solid 3.5 out of 5. For this years big release, CMON are blasting us into space in Zombicide: Invader– let’s find out what the fuss is all about. Zombicide: Invader is also considerably easier than Green Horde, based on the six or seven missions that I have played to date, in comparison to the overall campaign in Green Horde. But, that’s not to say it’s easy, it’s simply more manageable than it was in Green Horde, which on reflection I probably would have called out as being too difficult had I played the original game first. Invader‘s monsters are slightly weaker than those in Green Horde, whilst the mould that spreads throughout each environment is materially easier to deal with than when a horde card was drawn in Green Horde. The equation for Zombiecide is relatively straightforward: roll dice, remove plastic, and add more plastic but that equation has some incredible depth to it that I love. As with all co-op games that I enjoy, Zombiecide is HARD. I have seen the best laid plans go to ruin by some bad dice rolls or a spawn of enemies, and that is ok. The beauty and fun of Invader is that in most games you will pass by the skin of your teeth, and that is the way a good co-op should feel. Invader adds a lot of polish and a nice sci-fi theme to a classic game and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Their goal is to complete the scenario objects dictated by their particular mission before being overrun by zombies. The game board represents a zombie-infested town, with large square tiles, laid according to the mission selected.

You might be wondering, why kill zombies if that means more spawn as survivors level up? Great question, you would think evade, evade, evade where possible and kill as few zombies as possible. Unfortunately the zombies spawn from the pool. If you spawn zombies, but there are none to add to the board from the pool as they are all out, the zombies gain extra activations when they cannot be spawned and then things get very messy for survivors. There’s very much a balance required of zombie management and completing your mission objectives. Team strategy and tactics are everything. Additional Content If the players are able to complete all objectives, they are winners and may proceed to the following scenario. If, on the other hand, the zombies kill all survivors, the game is lost. [3] Development [ edit ] Although slightly unsettling, there are now child Survivors. They have one less health than their older counterparts, but each has the “slippery” ability, which allows them to walk through groups of zombies and avoid being overwhelmed.Take the role of a Survivor, each with unique abilities, and harness both their skills and the power of teamwork against the masses of unthinking, blood-craving Zombies! Unfortunately for you, there are a lot more zombies than you have bullets... Core Sets Each version of Zombicide has learnt from and built upon its predecessor in terms of rules, mechanics and quality of life adjustments. For the sake of this review, I will be comparing Zombicide: 2nd Edition to the last modern-day setting Zombicide – Zombicide: Rue Morgue. The final action option is to interact/search. There are various things in the world of Zombicide Invader that you may need to interact with to accomplish the current mission. The most impactful option you have at your disposal is the search action. This will allow you to search rooms to find new weapons and gear that will help you survive, because your enemies will continue to grow in number and ferocity as the game rages on. Three of the most common things are locating oxygen tanks to head outside, opening or closing doors in buildings, and operating the various drones or turrets that are on the map. All of these actions are streamlined and straightforward but will chew into your action economy so plan accordingly. Zombicide is without doubt one of my favourite games and was the first cooperative game I ever played. I was first introduced to Zombicide in late 2012 and this was the very first edition of the game. I didn’t know at this point in time that such a thing as a cooperative game existed. By that, I mean teaming up against the game, as I had worked alongside other players playing against other players in the past. Teaming up with friends in the post zombie apocalypse world, just wow!

TechRaptor stated "The game is fun and challenging if you like cooperative games". [6] An entry from The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction commented on the "complex gameplay" and difficulty. The writer Esther MacCallum-Stewart also praised the digital application that "greatly aids gameplay". [4] Awards [ edit ] The box artwork is by the venerable Adrian Smith and has his trademark style. The other aesthetic elements are also in the same vein and it all fits together into a very visually appealing game.Choose any of the Survivor characters, including the promos. Up to 24 Survivors can be managed on the same device. Tanks fill out the standard rank and file of the Xenos as the “big boys” of the brigade. Just like the workers, these hulking guys receive only one action but are tough and take two damage to defeat. They serve as the literal meat shield of those behind them to allow those sneaky hunters to close the gap and start dishing out the pain to your team. Tanks do, however, deliver a tasty three exp when bested. The Abomination Xenos The game has been expanded to several settings and spin-off games. All settings and spin-off games feature significantly different mechanics. The game is designed for every product for each setting/spin-off game to be easily mixed, but not to be mixed across settings/spin-offs. Below is a list of all released content for each of the settings and spin-off games, sorted by their SKU.

Firstly, I should point out that I’m a huge fan of Zombicide. Rue Morgue was the game that got me into the board game hobby. It regularly features in my game nights and I’d argue that it’s a great gateway game. I’ve used it to introduce several new people to the hobby whose previous gaming experience was purely videogame based. That said, Zombicide isn’t infallible. I’ll remain impartial for this review… or until CMON send me some freebies (that’s right – I’m totally for sale). What’s in the Box?

It also sets itself apart from the other base game. The regular zombicide invader feels more like Zombicide in Space while Zombicide Dark Side feels more like a tighter knitted alien blasting experience. Despite using the same core rules it is gratifying that they are able to create two very different feeling games.
